microgravity
Cross disciplinery research - Supported outer space expereince
Microgravity is an action performance research about the human species on the way to outer space. In a climate where only billionaires can buy a seat on a spacecraft, we want to democratise access to astronaut-like experiences so that ‘regular’ people like all the rest of us can experience the awe of space and participate in the reflection of our future. The project brings together artistic, scientific, and technical disciplines such as virtual reality, sound art, vertical dance, scientific dialogue, and immersive performance in order to encourage curiosity toward new types of moving/thinking. And generate experiences of Awe, Wonder, Curiosity, and Care (Humility).
Partnership and support
Microgravity has been partnered with the Animation Workshop Viborg and Khora: Virtual and Augmented Reality Studio for development of Virtual Reality applications. It received funding for residencies at Åbne Scene at Godsbanen and Vestyllandshøjskole from the Danish Arts Council for its research which ended in December 2022.
From 2023 the project is searching for production funds and presentation opportunities nationally and internationally.
Mini Gravity
Building upon Microgravity research. Mini Gravity is also a research project, exploring how to make an action performance for children about gravity and travelling to space. The research aims to democratize access to astronaut-like experiences through a participatory art performance experience. In the residency, the focus will be on developing performance and participation tools for a younger audience/participants ( children and youth). For them to witness, explore, learn, and play with sensations of weightlessness, the body in outer space and on different planets in the solar system.
The exploration takes place primarly in a series of two curated residencies at Åben Scene in Aarhus during 2024. Sparrow Dance is currently building a network of nordic partners to develop this idea further and to create expereiences for children in the nordic countries and around the world.
