MÆRK RUMMET — (Sensing Space) An immersive, participatory choreographic installation in weightlessness
|
MÆRK RUMMET is a durational choreographic installation inviting audiences of all ages into a fictional space journey beyond Earth.
The work makes experiences of space and weightlessness available to ordinary people — not just astronauts or billionaires. Through choreography, vertical dance, video, sound, facilitation, and Virtual Reality, the artists have created a carefully composed mission that allows visitors to experience altered gravity and unfamiliar spatial conditions physically. Mærk Rummet is not a scientific simulation, but a fictional, embodied artwork where choreography and technology meet in a shared sensory space. Wonder and awe emerge through physical experience — inviting audiences to slow down, explore unfamiliar perspectives, and sense what it might mean to move beyond Earth’s gravity. Each hour begins with a vertical dance performance in weightlessness, after which the experience splits into two parallel routes: the inside journey (astronauts on mission) and the outside journey (observing audience). Both offer complete aesthetic experiences with room for agency and exploration. Astronauts sign up to take part in a guided space journey, experiencing altered gravity through VR, a custom weightlessness system, and participatory choreography. Observers remain outside the mission, witnessing the journeys unfold against a fictive deep-space video projection. They move freely through the installation, follow the VR experience on monitors, take photos, or simply watch — coming and going like in an exhibition.
