Starting from a dance based floor warm-up we will stretch, warm up the core muscles and connect movement with a sense of flow. We then put on a harness and shift the practice to the wall and the free hanging rope where we first introduce short movement sequences and then use them as a base for the class exploration. Each person can work from their own physical capacity and movement curiosity. We let ourselves get a little lost in the flow and joy of moving on and off the floor, on and off the wall.

About the workshops...

Vertical Dance Days - Workshop: August
August Saturday 13th- Sunday 14th
Facilitators : Roel Seeber and  Bianca Cabrera (USA)
Theme: Surface
Description:

This two-day, vertical dance workshop will explore movement through the lens of “surface.” Starting with contact improvisation, we will focus and heighten the awareness and sensitivity of the surfaces of our bodies and the way we contact the surfaces around us. Whether those surfaces are the floor, the wall, the harness or other bodies, we will embark on a playful exploration of the world around us. Using the rope and harness, we will move on the wall  on the floor and in partnership with other dancers. We will ask the question, “How do we use our sensitivity to create connection with these surfaces and partners?” And “What different parts of our bodies can we use to find movement and support?” This process opens us up to different ways of moving and thinking about the floor, the wall and partnership. Through curiosity, play and exploration we will venture into the air with the confidence that we can return to the surface with a soft body and supple joints creating three-dimensional movement where up and down and left and right become less important and we move through space with comfort in disorientation.

What will we work with?
We will offer body preparation and sequences of movement in and out of a harness, and move from one gravity condition to another with attention on how to transition safely and with quality from the edges of balance and off the ground positioning. Together we expand on our sense of proprioception and attention in moving with architecture. This workshops bridges between Tiziana Fracchiolla's (de)stabilization and connection method and Esther Wrobel's practice of Vertical Dance.
For who is the workshop? Recommended for physically trained persons such as vertical dancers, physical performers, climbers, movers, yogis and circus artists who are interested in challenging gravity with movement. Harness experience recommended but not required.
Practical: Bring your own harness if you have one.
Refreshments: There will be coffee, tea, water and light refreshments.
